What to do in San Sebastian with friends
You’ve come to San Sebastian with some friends, you’re looking forward to going out for pintxos in the Old Town and eating and drinking your fill, but apart from that, what can you do in San Sebastian with friends? What can you do in a city you don’t know and whose main attraction you’ve already done? Luckily for you and your friends, we’ve got some plans for you, so make a note!
1.Take a Free Walking Tour with us, of course
If you want to get to know Donosti, its history, culture and some secrets that only the locals know, the best thing to do is to take a Free Tour as soon as you arrive in the city. This way you can find your bearings and decide what to do during your time here, in addition to the plans in this post.
2. Sign up for a surfing lesson
If you’ve never tried surfing, or you’re not very good at it, it can always be fun to take a lesson with friends. On the beach of La Zurriola there are several surf schools where they will leave you boards and wetsuits to practice a bit of this sport. Surfing is not easy, as it requires balance on the board, it is more than likely that you will fall into the water several times, so the laughs are guaranteed.
3.Go to La Perla
Maybe sport, or at least surfing, isn’t your thing, but soaking in the water is, so it might be a good idea to go to La Perla spa and do one of its thalassotherapy circuits. Relaxing with friends is always a good plan, and doing it with views of the bay of La Concha is even better. Don’t forget your swimming costume at home and enjoy yourselves.
4.Rent some bikes
Donosti is made for cycling. A good plan is to rent some electric bikes for a few hours and discover the city’s less touristy but equally pleasant neighbourhoods. El Antiguo, Amara, Egia… they all have their own special charm and places to visit, as well as good options for a bite to eat. We can’t think of anything better.
5.Have a picnic
In addition to the previous plan, in San Sebastián there are plenty of parks where you can have a delicious picnic in no time by taking a towel and some takeaway food. Whether you buy some sandwiches, empanadas, focaccia, salads or even a whole tortilla and something to drink, you’ll have lunch or dinner sorted out quickly and there’s little better than enjoying good food with friends.
6.Go to the beach
If it’s summer, and it’s hot, it’s a plan on its own. In Donosti there are three and a half beaches to choose from: La Zurriola, La Concha, Ondarreta and the small cove on the island of Santa Clara, which can only be seen at low tide. All you need is a swimming costume, towels and sun cream and you can enjoy yourselves. If you go to the island, you can also do the previous plan, 2 in 1.
7.Go to a concert
Listening to live music is always one of our favourite things to do wherever we go. Here in San Sebastian you have large venues where you can see concerts by great artists, such as the Kursaal, but also small venues where you can enjoy more obscure groups. Dabadaba and DOKA are just a few examples, so check out the agenda in San Sebastian because you might be in for a pleasant surprise!
8..Take a walking route
If you like walking, Donosti is the perfect place for it, as the Saint James Way crosses the city. Whether you are heading east or west, there are routes that are not too long or too difficult that you can do while you are here. You can also go a little further afield and climb the Peñas de Aia or the Adarra, just a few kilometres from the Centre.
9. Go out and party
If it’s the weekend, the weather is good and you feel like it, why not? Although there isn’t much of a club culture in Donosti (there are only two, Bataplan and Gu, both in La Concha), there are plenty of bars open until late where you can dance and meet people. The Old Town is the main area for this, but the Dabadaba is also open in the evenings with local and international DJs.
